Stylist RANT!!!
So...... I have something to say and it is purely my opinion so
I don’t care if ANYONE agrees with me or not.
Sometimes I feel hairstylist do not get the respect they deserve because
of quite a few things:
UNLICENSED STYLIST:
If you are not licensed, and you find that you love hair,
GET A LICENSE! If you love it, you will
do what you have to do to be able to do it LEGALLY.
YOUTUBE STYLIST:
I love YouTube, but everyone is not a hairstylist and
they do not have the TRAINING that we as stylist have dedicated 1500+ hours to. Even worse is the stylist who uses YouTube because they are too CHEAP to pay for an actual class.
YouTube is a great INTRODUCTION to a new technique, but CLASSES offer the best in-depth training. I am not a “YouTube” stylist. I am not going to teach myself a technique via
YOUTUBE. Instead, I will go to somebody’s
class and PAY for the technique I want to learn. If you do your research you may find that some classes are FREE, you just have to make the EFFORT! This is the difference between mediocre and
the BEST. I have paid for most techniques, but there are some times I was blessed with an opportunity to Get the knowledge FREE. That is not what I look for EVERY TIME because you have to invest in yourself! Sometimes stylists are too
CHEAP to invest in their own selves!!! This
leads me to my next topic.
CHEAP STYLIST:
If you are wondering why your hair is unhealthy, not
growing, or just plain tore up, ask yourself if you let anyone in your head as
long as they are the CHEAPEST. If you
are hopping from salon to salon looking for the stylist who charges the least
amount of money, NEWSFLASH: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Great product COST! Just to give an idea, the shampoo and
conditioner I use is $40 per set. So
unless you want some 99cents VO5 in your hair, I cannot style your hair for
$20, $25. I cannot complete a sew-in for
$50. I have trained with some of the
BEST in the industry and my 20 years of experience shines through my work.
CHAIR HOPPERS:
Finding a hairstylist is no easy task but once you find
one that gets your hair to a healthy state and GROWING, STICK WITH THEM. It is frustrating when clients chair hop and
then come back expecting us to fix what the next person has messed up. If finances are a problem at least talk to
your stylist and get a home care regime that may work for you and your stylist
until you are able to continue your routine.
Sometimes I feel stylist don't get the respect we deserve and we are viewed as SERVANTS instead of providing a SERVICE. Not calling to cancel, not showing up, calling to cancel AFTER your appointment time has passed (you might as well not even call) is unacceptable. While the choice of stylist is yours, it is also our choice to accept you as a client. This is why cancellation, no show fees, and sew-in deposits have to be put into place. We all have other things to do, so respect and consideration is the least we all can ask for.
We all have some things we can work on so stylist and clients let's get ourselves together! Thank you for reading. Much Love. Have a nice day.
