STYLIST RANT!!!

Stylist RANT!!!

So...... I have something to say and it is purely my opinion so I don’t care if ANYONE agrees with me or not.  Sometimes I feel hairstylist do not get the respect they deserve because of quite a few things:

UNLICENSED STYLIST:

If you are not licensed, and you find that you love hair, GET A LICENSE!  If you love it, you will do what you have to do to be able to do it LEGALLY.

YOUTUBE STYLIST:

I love YouTube, but everyone is not a hairstylist and they do not have the TRAINING that we as stylist have dedicated 1500+ hours to. Even worse is the stylist who uses YouTube because they are too CHEAP to pay for an actual class.  YouTube is a great INTRODUCTION to a new technique, but CLASSES offer the best in-depth training.  I am not a “YouTube” stylist.  I am not going to teach myself a technique via YOUTUBE.  Instead, I will go to somebody’s class and PAY for the technique I want to learn. If you do your research you may find that some classes are FREE, you just have to make the EFFORT!   This is the difference between mediocre and the BEST.  I have paid for most techniques, but there are some times I was blessed with an opportunity to Get the knowledge FREE.  That is not what I look for EVERY TIME because you have to invest in yourself!  Sometimes stylists are too CHEAP to invest in their own selves!!!  This leads me to my next topic.

CHEAP STYLIST:

If you are wondering why your hair is unhealthy, not growing, or just plain tore up, ask yourself if you let anyone in your head as long as they are the CHEAPEST.  If you are hopping from salon to salon looking for the stylist who charges the least amount of money, NEWSFLASH: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!  Great product COST!  Just to give an idea, the shampoo and conditioner I use is $40 per set.  So unless you want some 99cents VO5 in your hair, I cannot style your hair for $20, $25.  I cannot complete a sew-in for $50.  I have trained with some of the BEST in the industry and my 20 years of experience shines through my work.

CHAIR HOPPERS:
Finding a hairstylist is no easy task but once you find one that gets your hair to a healthy state and GROWING, STICK WITH THEM.  It is frustrating when clients chair hop and then come back expecting us to fix what the next person has messed up.  If finances are a problem at least talk to your stylist and get a home care regime that may work for you and your stylist until you are able to continue your routine.

Sometimes I feel stylist don't get the respect we deserve and we are viewed as SERVANTS instead of providing a SERVICE.  Not calling to cancel, not showing up, calling to cancel AFTER your appointment time has passed (you might as well not even call) is unacceptable. While the choice of stylist is yours, it is also our choice to accept you as a client.  This is why cancellation, no show fees, and sew-in deposits have to be put into place.  We all have other things to do, so respect and consideration is the least we all can ask for.

We all have some things we can work on so stylist and clients let's get ourselves together! Thank you for reading. Much Love. Have a nice day.

The Bun... So HOT this Wedding Season!!!

Tell all the guys to hide their sock drawer because the bun is in!  I have had more requests for a simple elegant bun this wedding season. Also, I have gotten quite a few request for the bun for clients trying to just give their hair a rest in between hair extensions (weaves).  Whether at the neck line or high in the crown of the head, this simple sheik style adds a quite elegance especially if your wedding gown is over the top or has a lot going on.

There are a lot of different buns so let's break them down so you can see which one you may want to rock.

Messy Bun:  This bun is the bun that is Organized chaos (Tina Fey's/Mary J's look).  You have to be careful with this look, if not done correctly, you can look totally like you just woke up and didn't comb your hair, a (hot mess).   I normally like these type buns in the crown of the head, but it just depends on the face.

Loose Curls Bun: (My personal favorite type of bun)... This bun looks  like curls pinned in harmoniously together (Mya's look).  I think this bun can work dependent on your face on either part of the head be it crown, nape, or even pulled to the side.

Sock/Donut Bun:  This bun looks similar to a donut, it is more sleek (when done right). (Eva the Diva's look) In my opinion this type of bun looks best either in the crown or at the nape of the neck.  I am not really a fan of these being at the side.

So whether you are wearing for a wedding or just wearing to give your hair a break, these looks are IN!  Add deep bangs to change it up!  I guess we will all see how long this trend will last.  The bun definitely gives new meaning to the phrase "less is more"!

My Review of "The Game" Premeire Looks !!!

Well HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!  I hope you all had a great beginning into 2012…..

The Game is back!  Hot looks from the Newest Season Premiere!!!

We have long waited for the series to return and it started with a Bang!  I really enjoyed the premiere of the first two episodes.  So glad I recorded it.  Well I would be oblivious if I skipped a review of the looks from the ladies of season 5.  Well who shall we start with???  I guess we will go in order of premiere appearance.
·         Dr. Melanie Barnett-Davis, M.D (Tia Mowry Hardrict)-  Had long flowing hair with soft curls (never goes out of style).  Now I am sure Tia has good hair because we remember her from ‘Sister Sister’, but I know she has some “Enhancement” (WEAVE)!
·         LaTasha “Tasha” Mack (Wendy Raquel Robinson)- She rocked a long straight weave with swooped bangs long layers.  Unoriginal, we have seen this look before.  I was hoping to see the look we seen during the promo commercials.
·         Jenna Rice (Tika Sumpter)- Another long straight weave. No layers, just bluntly cut.  I liked it on her.
·         Chardonnay (Brandy Norwood)- Now her hair was my favorite of the night.  I love layers with the “choppy edgy” look.  Her hair I would have to say was my favorite of the premiere.
·         Janay Brice (Gabrielle Dennis)-Her hair was my second favorite.  She had a long weave with wavy hair.  It looks like the Virgin Indian Hair.

Overall they didn’t over do any of the looks which I like because sometimes less is more.  I wish they would have given Wendy Raquel Robinson’s character a different look.  We have seen her in long weaves the majority of the seasons.  Time to change it up!  Stay tuned for more of my opinions AWARD SHOW season is here and I will definitely be giving my opinion on the hair and overall looks!!!

Winter Style Forecast!

SO….. Winter time is upon us!!! Some states are already getting snow, and here in Texas we have definitely been getting cooler weather.  Winter’s hair forecast, COLOR!!!  Warm and golden blonde hues will be IN this winter season.  Length wise, short lengths with along swoop or long lengths 14+ inches seem to be what will trend more this winter.  How will you rock your hair?  Check out the styles below:

Keri Hilson—Loving the color on her!  Her color is absolutely FABULOUS I believe this is the best I have seen her hair so far!

Rhianna-Of course Rhianna is known more for her hairstyles than for her singing!  Check out this beautiful short style with swoop…So in this coming season.

LaLa Anthony- LaLa’s soft flowing waves are really going to be HOT during the cold winter!  It’s all about soft, flowing curls, waves, and feathers with the soft styles.

Hot Looks on Housewives of Atlanta Season 4!

Well it’s countdown to my absolute FAVORITE reality show Housewives of Atlanta.  The new series begins November 6, on Bravo!  Everyone pretty much look the same with the exception of Kandi Burris.

(Click to make Season 4 preview picture bigger.)

One of my favorites, from the show Kandi has debuted dark brown straight extensions which look great!  I don’t know I am undecided whether she looks better short or long.  I think both looks look great on her except I found an older picture in which her hair was long and black.  LOVED that.  What is your favorite Kandi look (Short or Long)?  Which ATL housewife’s look do you like the best?

So what looks are everyone else pulling off?

Kim Zocliak- She still wearing her blonde wig.  They seem to be getting better as the seasons progress.  Thank God she has Derek Jae on her team.

NeNe Leeks- Still in her blonde 27 piece but it looks great!  I don't know I think I liked her better with the long hair in season 1.

Cynthia Bailey-Loving the curly long extensions on her but I think she looks good with her short spikey look when she first started last season.  The molded down flat version of the short look was a no-no, (trust me I understand a bad hair day) but not for live TV!  Overall I think she should stick with the weave.

Phaedria Parks- Gotta give it to Phaedria, haven't had a bad hair day as far as I could see!  Does Dwight Eubanks do her hair?

Sheree Whitfield-Gotta hand it to Sheree too, never seen her with a bad hair day! Right now she's rocking her extensions which look FABULOUS!  My favorite look on her though was the long ponytail and swooped bang from the season 1 reunion show.  Loved it!

Well there you have it love or hate them they'll be back November 6th and I'll be front and center!  Less than 30 days away!
